Andreína Martínez Founier-Rosado, 25, of Santiago, Dominican Republic almost won the Miss Universe 2022 title. She is a model and she is 6’0″ tall.
Hosted by Jeannie Mai and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, the Miss Universe 2022 coronation night was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States on January 14, 2023. Zuri Hall and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray were the live commentators.
Including Martinez, a total of 84 women competed for the Miss Universe 2022 crown, which was crafted by Mouawad. The judges were Big Freedia, Mara Martin, Emily Austin, Olivia Quido, Myrka Dellanos, Sweta Patel, Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam and Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete.
“If you win Miss Universe, how would you work to demonstrate this as an empowering and progressive organization?” Martinez and the two other finalists were asked in the final question-and-answer portion. She answered, “I understand that the Miss Universe organization is looking for an ambassador, somebody who is able to communicate a message.”
“I have been working for women’s rights for as long as I can remember,” Martinez continued. “It’s been my action to every single day. I’m here to demonstrate this, that it doesn’t matter where you come from. Your background does not define you; your courage and determination do, and I will show that by working every single day, showing my leadership and determination.”
Representing the U.S., R’Bonney Gabriel, 28, was crowned Miss Universe 2022. Runner-up to Gabriel was Amanda Dudamel, 23, of Venezuela.
Martinez was second runner-up. Gabriëla Dos Santos, 20, of Curacao and Ashley Cariño, 28, of Puerto Rico finished in the Top 5.
