Merida, Venezuela’s Amanda Dudamel is Miss Universe 2022 first runner-up

Amanda Dudamel Newman, 23, of Merida, Venezuela almost won the Miss Universe 2022 title. She is a fashion designer and a model.

Hosted by Jeannie Mai and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, the Miss Universe 2022 coronation night was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States on January 14, 2023. Zuri Hall and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray were the live commentators.

Including Dudamel, a total of 84 women competed for the Miss Universe 2022 crown, which was crafted by Mouawad. The judges were Big Freedia, Mara Martin, Emily Austin, Olivia Quido, Myrka Dellanos, Sweta Patel, Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam and Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete.

“If you win Miss Universe, how would you work to demonstrate this as an empowering and progressive organization?” Dudamel and the two other finalists were asked in the final question-and-answer portion. She answered, “If I get to win Miss Universe, I would follow the legacy that many women across the universe has showed to be part of this organization because Miss Universe has demonstrated that they choose women who inspire with their messages and transform with their actions.”

“And that’s precisely what I would like to do,” the Venezuelan beauty queen continued. “I’m a fashion designer by profession but I’m a designer of dreams.”

Representing the U.S., R’Bonney Gabriel, 28, was crowned Miss Universe 2022. Dudamel was runner-up to Gabriel.

Andreina Martínez, 25, of the Dominican Republic was second runner-up. Gabriëla Dos Santos, 20, of Curacao and Ashley Cariño, 28, of Puerto Rico finished in the Top 5.
