Finland’s Aleksanteri Kivimäki arrested in Courbevoie, Île-de-France, France

Aleksanteri Tomminpoika Kivimäki, 25, of Finland is also known as Julius Kivimäki. He uses different aliases including Zeekill and Ryan and he is 6’3″ tall.

Under the banner of the DDoS gang Lizard Squad, Kivimäki carried out 50,700 distributed denial-of-service attacks in 2012 and 2013. In 2015, he was found guilty and he received a suspended two-year sentence.

Vastaamo Psychotherapy Center was based in Helsinki, Finland. The now-defunct company served as a contractor for the public healthcare system in Finland.

With 25 therapy centers, the company provided mental health services. The company suffered data breaches in November 2018 and March 2019.

This resulted in the theft of patient data, including medical records and financial details. In October 2020, hackers including Kivimäki started leaking some of the stolen data and demanded a ransom payment worth approximately 450,000 euros ($485,000) in bitcoins from the company to avoid additional data leaks.

In February 2021, Vastaamo Psychotherapy Center declared bankruptcy after suffering from two data breaches. In December 2021, Finland’s Data Protection Ombudsman imposed an administrative fine of 608,000 euros ($655,000) on the company for multiple data privacy violations.

In October 2022, Helsinki District Court ordered Kivimäk arrested in absentia. He failed to show up in court so he was issued a European arrest warrant and Interpol red notice.

On February 3, 2023, Kivimäki was arrested in Courbevoie, Île-de-France, France after police responded to a report of suspected domestic violence at an apartment. He is expected to be extradited to Finland soon.
