Mohamed Mao, 34, of Anaheim, Orange County, California, United States used to be employed by VP Protection Inc., which is based in Brea, Orange County. At the time of his hiring, he had no criminal record and was certified as a security guard.
On February 6, 2023, Mao started his job as a security guard at Amerige Heights Town Center in Fullerton, Orange County. As a security guard, he was not allowed to perform traffic stops.
On February 7, 2023, a girl, 17, was with her boyfriend inside a vehicle parked near the shopping center. While in uniform, Mao approached the parked vehicle and ordered the girl to to get in the backseat of his patrol car.
Mao locked the girl in his car and drove off to another location in the shopping center where he sexually assaulted her. He let her go after she contacted her parents using her phone.
At around 7:20 p.m., the girl went to the Fullerton Police Department with her parents to report that she had been sexually assaulted. Officers from the department went to the location where girl said the assault occurred and observed Mao trying to stop another vehicle in the shopping center’s parking lot.
The officers arrested Mao and transported him to the Fullerton City Jail in Fullerton. He was charged with kidnapping, impersonating a police officer, sexual battery of a minor and assault with the intent to rape.
Bail for Mao is set at $100,000. He is no longer with VP Protection Inc.
