Thomas “Tom” Develin is an American man from Columbus, Ohio, United States. His sister Katie Develin Runyon is a registered nurse in the oncology department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus and their father William Monroe Develin is an engineer at the Piketon Uranium Enrichment Plant in Piketon, Ohio.

As members of the Boy Scouts of America, William was a Scoutmaster while Tom achieved the Eagle Scout rank. On August 4, 2020, William was awarded with the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award by Grand Master Keith Newton of Ohio Masons for his involvement as a troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

A former Ohio National Guard member, Tom worked as a security guard at Columbus Torah Academy, a Modern Orthodox Jewish K-12 school in Columbus. Here are 13 more things about him:

  2. From October 2019 to January 2020, he worked for Abercrombie & Fitch Co. in New Albany, Ohio as a site security specialist.

  8. In December 2021, he posted online about conducting a mass shooting at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, which is near Columbus.

On March 11, 2022, while working at Columbus Torah Academy, he posted on social media site Discord a photo of himself holding a firearm and wrote in the caption, “I’m at a Jewish school and about to make it everyone’s problem. The playground is about to turn into a self-defense situation.” He also posted comments saying he “wanted to shoot parents coming to pick up their children”. 
  10. On March 30, 2022, he was arrested in Franklin County, Ohio. He was suspended from the Ohio National Guard after the arrest.
  11. On April 1, 2022, he was arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court in Columbus. His bail was set at $1 million bond. 
  12. On October 20, 2022, he pleaded guilty in federal court to making and selling untraceable homemade weapons made in whole or in part with a 3D printer.
  13. On February 28, 2023, he was sentenced in a federal courtroom in Ohio to 71 months in prison and six years of supervised release.
