Furqan Cheema, 32, of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom is competing in ONE Championship again. Originally from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, he made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2019.
On March 10, 2023, ONE Championship will hold “ONE Friday Fights 8” at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The fight card has one kickboxing contest, nine Muay Thai matches and two MMA fights.
In the second bout of the evening, Cheema will fight Salamat Orozakunov, 32, of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in a professional MMA bout in the welterweight division. The latter is a ONE Championship debutante and an undefeated MMA fighter.
Orozakunov made his professional MMA debut on March 6, 2021. He currently holds a professional MMA record of 3 wins and 0 loss.
Cheema was also undefeated when he entered the ONE Championship cage at “ONE: Edge of Greatness” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on November 22, 2019. He was submitted by “The Kerala Krusher” Rahul Raju, 31, of Kerala, India via rear-naked choke.
The loss downgraded Cheema’s professional MMA record to 3 wins and 1 loss. He went on hiatus from 2020 to 2022 amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“ONE Friday Fights 8” marks Cheema’s second ONE Championship fight. A total 12 countries are represented in the event namely Cambodia, China, England, France, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, Sweden, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
