Shanan Lynn Read was an American crime victim from Auburn, King County, Washington, United States. In 2005, Anthony Marou Martinez injected her with a deadly amount of drugs in King County that led to her death.

Oscar Cash Gonzales was in the vicinity of Read’s killing but he was not involved in the killing. Brian Anderson Bourquard and Brandon Michael Reeve did not participate in the deadly injection but they assisted in covering up the murder.

In 2008, Bourquard became a person of interest in Read’s death. Martinez died in 2016 without being identified as the suspect in her murder.

Read is Diane Read‘s oldest daughter. After struggling with substance abuse for years, Shanan avoided her mother and her two siblings, a brother and a sister, and abandoned her four children.

Aside from Auburn, Shanan lived in other parts of Washington including Seattle. Here are 13 more things about her:

  2. In 1985, she started smoking marijuana and skipping school.
  3. In 1992, she gave birth to her first child.
  4. In 1993, she used methamphetamine for the first time.
  5. In 1997, she gave birth to her second child Mark Smith.
  6. In 1998, she gave birth to her third child.
  7. In 2003, she gave birth to her fourth child, a daughter.
  8. In August 2005, she was killed by Martinez.
  9. On January 15, 2006, a boater found her decomposed and decapitated body floating inside a Rubbermaid tote container near Blake Island, a Puget Sound island in Kitsap County, Washington.
  10. In March 2006, her head was found in Port Orchard, Kitsap County and the Kitsap County Coroner’s Office ruled her death as an accidental drug overdose.
  11. On June 20, 2008, the Kitsap County Coroner’s Office said that her death has been ruled a homicide by unknown causes.
  12. In August 2022, Reeve, Bourquard and Gonzales were arrested and accused of being involved in her murder.
  13. In February 2023, Reeve and Bourquard pleaded guilty to helping cover up her killing.
