What Madison, Wisconsin’s Michael Barnett told Bradley International Airport sandwich shop employee

Michael Barnett, 38, of Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, United States was at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA on April 8, 2023. At around 6:30 p.m., Connecticut State Police troopers assigned to patrol operations at the airport responded to D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches inside the airport terminal for a report of a disturbance.

Due to high demand, the sandwich shop ran out of bread for sandwiches that evening. A black female employee of the shop informed waiting customers including Barnett.

The D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches employee offered to make wraps instead of sandwiches. Barnett started cursing and making verbal threats.

A witness told the troopers that Barnett yelled at the employee and referred to her by a racial slur. The suspect was located in the airport’s west concourse and taken into custody without incident.

The troopers transported Barnett to Troop H’s headquarters at Bradley International Airport for processing. He was charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening and third-degree intimidation based on bigotry or bias.

After posting a $2,500 bond, Barnett was released. On April 25, 2023, he will be arraigned at Connecticut Superior Court in Hartford, Hartford County.
