Bob Lee was a software engineer and businessman born in St. Louis, Missouri, United States to Rick Lee and Nan Lee. Bob has a brother named Tim Oliver Lee.

Bob had polydactyly before undergoing surgery. He and his wife Krista Lee have one son and one daughter together.


While attending Lindbergh High School in Sappington, Missouri, Lee wrote a 3D rendering engine in the software development system Turbo Pascal. He attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Nicknamed Crazy Bob, Bob was known for his energy when playing water polo. Here are 13 more things about him:

  2. He worked as a web developer for Redrock Communications from 1997 to 1998, Southeast Missouri State University from 1998 to 1999 and D’Arcy from 1999 to 2000.
  3. From 2000 to 2001, he worked for Capgemini as a senior consultant.
  4. From 2001 to 2002, he worked for Ajilon Consulting as a senior consultant. In 2001, he wrote a program for Microsoft IIS to defend servers from Code Red, which was then a rapidly spreading computer worm.
  5. From 2002 to 2003, he worked for OCI Partners as a senior consultant. In 2003, he joined AT&T as a technical architect.
  6. From October 2004 to January 2010, he worked for Google as a staff software engineer. In 2006, he and Kevin Bourrillion co-authored the dependency injection framework Guice to modularize AdWords. In 2008, he and Bourrillion were awarded the Jolt Award for their work on Guice.
  7. From 2010 to 2014, he worked for Square as the chief technology officer. 
  8. In 2013, he developed a mobile payment service called Square Cash, which was renamed as Cash App in 2015.
  9. In 2019, his mother died. In the same year, he and Krista separated and he and his father moved to Mill Valley, California.
  10. During the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which started in 2020, he helped develop the app of the World Health Organization.
  11. In 2021, he became the chief product officer of cryptocurrency payment firm MobileCoin.
  12. In October 2022, he and his father moved to Miami, Florida, USA.
  13. On April 4, 2023, he was fatally stabbed Lee in Rincon Hill, San Francisco allegedly by Momeni. He died at age 43. On April 14, 2023, Momeni was arrested.
