Did Kansas City, Missouri’s Andrew Lester shoot Ralph Yarl? Bond set at $200K

Andrew D. Lester, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri, United States is accused of shooting Ralph Yarl, 16, twice. The teenager is a junior at Staley High School in Kansas City.

On April 13, 2023, Yarl was asked by his parents to pick up his twin brothers from an address on 115th Terrace. Instead, he went to a house in the 1100 block of 115th Street in the city and rang the doorbell.

Lester is the owner of that house. Without exchanging words with Yarl, Lester allegedly opened the door and shot the teenager in the head through a glass door with a 32-caliber revolver.

When Yarl fell to the ground, he was shot again allegedly by Lester. The teenager managed to get up and run from the property.

After asking at three different houses, Yarl finally got help. At around 10:00 p.m., Kansas City Police Department officers responded to the area.

Just before midnight, Lester was taken into custody. At 1:24 a.m. on April 14, 2023, he was released.

On April 17, 2023, Lester was charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action.  A bond of $200,000 was set for him.
