Robert Louis Singletary, 24, is a new neighbor of Kinsley White, 6, in Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. She is William “Jamie” White and Ashley Hilderbrand‘s daughter.

On April 18, 2023, Jamie and Hilderbrand were outside their house grilling while Kinsley was riding her bike and several children were playing basketball in the neighborhood. After the ball rolled down the street and into Singletary’s yard, he allegedly yelled at Kinsley and the other children who went to retrieve it.

Jamie went to Singletary’s house to confront him. The latter allegedly came out with a gun and opened fire, wounding Jamie, Kinsley and Hilderbrand.

Jamie, who was seriously hurt, remains in a hospital while Hilderbrand and Kinsley, who were grazed by bullet fragments, have been treated and released. Doctors removed bullet fragments from her Kinsley’s cheek.

In an interview with WSOC-TV, Hilderbrand said she heard Singletary make a threat. According to her, he looked at Jamie and Kinsley and said, “I’m going to kill you.”

“Why did you shoot my daddy and me?” Kinsley asked Singletary in an interview with the publication. “Why did you shoot a kid’s dad?”

On April 20, 2023, Singletary turned himself into authorities in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, USA. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and four counts of attempted first-degree murder.
