Arman Achuthan Nair, 26, of Chicago, Illinois, United States was at Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, United States on April 25, 2023. He was caught carrying a vampire straw through security at the airport.
The self-defense weapon is a titanium straw with a beveled end. The Transportation Security Administration does not allow such weapons to be carried onto a flight.
As a self-defense weapon, the straw can be used like a dagger. As a straw, it can be used to slurp down smoothies and other drinks.
A 10-inch vampire straw was found in Nair’s backpack while he was at at Logan International Airport. A Massachusetts State Police trooper was alerted.
The trooper confiscated the item and arrested Nair. He was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon.
On May 30, 2023, Nair will be arraigned in East Boston Municipal Court in East Boston, Boston. He has posted bail.
