Katie Sorensen, 31, of Sonoma, Sonoma County, California, United States is a mother of two who described herself on social media as a “mom influencer”. She gave birth to a son in 2016 and a daughter in 2019.
On December 7, 2020, Sorensen went to a Michaels craft store in Petaluma, Sonoma County with her two children. That day, she encountered Latino couple and Petaluma residents Eduardo “Eddie” Martinez, 49, and Sadie Vega Martinez, 48, who went to that craft store that day to buy a nativity scene and decorations for their Christmas display.
Eddie is a UPS driver while Sadie is a part-time bookkeeper who is passionate about arts and craft. They have five children born between 1996 and 2009.
On December 13, 2020, Sorensen took to Instagram to share two videos of herself accusing Eddie and Sadie of trying to kidnap her two children at the Michaels in Petaluma on December 7, 2020. Sorensen reported her claims to the Petaluma Police Department.
On December 17, 2020, law enforcement officials in Petaluma said there was no evidence to support Sorensen’s kidnapping claim. On April 29, 2021, Sonoma County prosecutors confirmed that she was charged with three misdemeanor counts of making a false report of a crime.
On April 26, 2023, Sorensen was in a courtroom in Sonoma County where she was found guilty of one count of making a false report of a crime and not guilty on two other counts. Represented by Charles Dresow, she was taken from the courtroom in handcuffs.
Bail for Sorensen was set at $100,000. The maximum sentence for her conviction is six months in jail.
