Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, United States recently hired Luke Waski, 33, of Jacksonville as a nurse. He is no longer an employee of the hospital.
On April 27, 2023, a female Baptist South Hospital patient asked Waski, her assigned nurse, if he could use her phone to make a call for her and let someone know she was okay. After she unlocked her phone and gave it to him, he walked out of the room with it.
The patient yelled Waski has her phone. Surveillance footage captured him leaving her room and going inside a bathroom before coming out and grabbing two blankets from a nurse’s station.
When Waski returned to her room with two blankets, she asked for her phone back and he told her he did not have it. She then saw her phone in the middle of the blankets he brought in.
As the patient lay in her hospital bed, her Apple Watch alerted her to the three naked photos of herself and a video sent from her phone to a phone number that matches the number on file at the hospital for Waski. She found the text messages he sent to himself in her phone’s recently deleted messages.
Within a few hours of the incident, Waski was arrested at his home. He was charged with video voyeurism and sexual cyber harassment.
On May 11, 2023, a Baptist Health spokesperson confirmed that Waski has been fired and the booking photo for the nurse was released. The hospital has reported the crime to the Florida Department of Health.
