Did Versailles, Missouri umpire Neal Sidebottom choke a deputy? Bond set at $100k

Neal Allen Sidebottom, 56, of Versailles, Morgan County, Missouri, United States is Shirley Haggerman Sidebottom‘s son. He was the head coach of Versailles Summer Baseball from May 2004 to 2016.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association certified Neal as a baseball umpire in March 2015 and as a basketball referee in December 2015. He is one of the two organizers of Raw Talent LLC, which was incorporated in Missouri on July 31, 2017.

On May 13, 2023, Neal had a disagreement with a player’s mother at a ball game at the Ballparks National on Kissick Way in Macks Creek, Camden County, Missouri. He allegedly shoved her out of his way during the argument.

A Camden County Sheriff’s Office deputy first talked to the woman then approached Neal to get his statement. The umpire allegedly refused to identify himself and walked away.

When the deputy stopped Neal, the umpire allegedly took the deputy to the ground in a chokehold. Several witnesses pulled the umpire off the deputy, who was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

Neal was arrested and booked into the Camden County Jail Camdenton, Camden County, Missouri. He was charged with first-degree assault and resisting arrest.

Bond for Neal was set at $100,000. A court date has yet to be set.
