Jacksonville, Florida’s Louis Antuwn Redmon accused of shooting Miami’s Hershy Schwartz

Hershey Schwartz of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States has died. He was 39.

Originally from New York, USA, Schwartz moved to Florida in 2011. He is a member of the Orthodox Jewish Community in North Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County and the religious group called Chesed Shel Emes (Charity of Truth) of Florida.

Schwartz worked for Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes in North Miami Beach. A heavy machinery operator, he often rested alone in his sport utility vehicle.

On November 28, 2022, Schwartz and Rosie Brustowsky of Lakewood, New Jersey, USA got engaged. They were supposed to get married on March 1, 2023 in Lakewood.

Louis Antuwn Redmon, 23, of Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, United States is affiliated with the Florida Democratic Party. On May 17, 2016, he registered to vote in Duval County.

While staying at a hotel in North Miami Beach, Redmon entered a parking lot on the morning of February 19, 2023. At around 4:30 a.m. that morning, Schwartz went to his sport utility vehicle, which was parked there.

Wearing a hooded sweatshirt, Redmon looked into Schwartz car and opened its door, which led to a struggle. Redmon backed away and shot Schwartz three times.

At 8:30 a.m., police officers found Schwartz in a parking lot at a Wendy’s in North Miami Beach. His car was ransacked and his cellphone, wallet and firearm were missing.

After the shooting, Redmon spoke with his girlfriend via Instagram video call and told her general descriptions of the crime. On April 27, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office took him into custody on a warrant out of Duval County for failure to return a hired vehicle.

On the evening of May 17, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested Redmon at the Kings Ridge Apartment complex in Jacksonville in connection with the fatal shooting of Schwartz. He was charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed carjacking and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
