Based in Samut Prakan, Thailand and New York City, New York, United States, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) oversees the annual Miss Universe beauty pageant. Anne Jakrajutatip, 44, of Thailand is the chief executive officer of JKN Global Group, which owns Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA.
On August 7, 2023, the MUO announced that it is open to applications from potential national directors who would like their country-level pageant to be a part of the 2024 MUO system. This is the first time in the organization’s 72-year history that it is taking formal applications from the public.
This open process reflects the organization’s commitment to being as inclusive and representative as possible. The applications are open to any potential partner who is not currently part of the system for 2023.
The online system is now open. To apply, please visit missuniverse.com/nationaldirectorapplication.
On September 30, 2023, the application window will close. In December 2023, the list of approved Miss Universe 2024 national directors will be announced.
Current national directors will have a separate renewal process, which they have already been briefed on. Among them are Josh Yugen, 36, who holds the franchise for Bahrain, Egypt and Pakistan, and Poppy Capella, 31, who holds the franchise for Indonesia and Malaysia.
On November 18, 2023, reigning Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel, 29, of the U.S. will crown her successor in San Salvador, El Salvador. She was crowned the 71st Miss Universe on January 14, 2023 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA with Amanda Dudamel, 23, of Venezuela and Andreina Martinez, 25, of the Dominican Republic as the respective first and second runners-up.
On June 28, 1952, Armi Kuusela, then 17, of Finland was crowned in Long Beach, California, USA as the inaugural Miss Universe. On July 17, 1953, her successor Christiane Martel, then 18, of France was crowned also in Long Beach.
