Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 Karla Inelisse Guilfú Acevedo, 26, is originally from Patillas, Puerto Rico, United States. She previously lived in Isla Culebra, Puerto Rico and is currently based in Caguas, Puerto Rico.
Guilfu is the chief executive officer and director of Comencemos a Sanar, a platform for education, community work and social justice. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
On July 29, 2018, Guilfu represented Puerto Rico at Miss Teen Mundial 2018 and competed against 29 other candidates in El Salvador. She finished in the Top 12.
In December 2020, Guilfu was appointed Miss Supranational Puerto Rico 2020. At the time, she was pursuing her master’s degree in counselling psychology.
On August 21, 2021, Guilfu represented Puerto Rico at Miss Supranational 2021 and competed against 57 other candidates at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sącz, Małopolska, Poland. She was runner-up to Chanique Rabe of Namibia while Thato Mosehle of South Africa, Valentina Sanchez of Venezuela and Eoanna Constanza of the Dominican Republic were the respective second, third and fourth runners-up.
On August 24, 2023, Guilfu represented Patillas at Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 and competed against 29 other finalists at Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Centerin in San Juan. She won the title.
Runner-up to Guilfu is Xarimar Acevedo Pabón of Rio Grande. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up are Kiara Rivera Escudero of Toa Baja, Fiorella Medina Perez of Isabella and Isarel Marielis Román Almeda of San Lorenzo.
On November 18, 2023, Guilfu will represent Puerto Rico at Miss Universe 2023 in San Salvador, El Salvador. She will competed against more than 80 other candidates including Miss Supranational 2019 Anntonia Porsild, 27, of Thailand, transwoman Rikkie Valerie Kollé, 22, of the Netherlands, Michelle Dee, 28, of the Philippines, who identifies as bisexual, and Michelle Cohn, 28, of Guatemala, who is a mother of two.
