Donna Sue Adelson, 73, and her husband Dr. Harvey Jerome Adelson, 79, are residents of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. They used to live in Coral Springs, Broward County.
Harvey and Donna have three children namely Robert Todd Adelson, 50, Charles Jay “Charlie” Adelson, 47, and Wendi Jill Adelson, 44. Wendi married Daniel Eric “Dan” Markel on February 26, 2006 and filed for divorce on September 10, 2012, which was finalized on July 31, 2013.
Markel was shot in Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida allegedly by Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera on July 18, 2014 and died on July 19, 2014. Using Katherine Magbanua as an intermediary, Donna and Charlie allegedly paid Garcia and Rivera to commit the crime.
On April 21, 2022, Charlie was arrested. On November 6, 2023, he was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation to commit murder in the death of Markel.
Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on November 13, 2023, Donna and Harvey were intercepted at the Miami International Airport in Miami by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement. The couple had one-way plane tickets to Vietnam with a scheduled two-day stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Vietnam has no extradition treaty with the U.S. Whether or not Harvey and Donna have been to the Asian country is unclear.
Donna was arrested on a warrant charging her with first-degree murder, conspiracy and solicitation. She was booked into the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.
Currently, Donna is being held without bond. She is expected to be transported to the Leon County Detention Facility in Tallahassee where Charlie is incarcerated while he awaits sentencing.
