Greensboro, North Carolina cop Dale Nix shot; John Morrison, Z’quriah Blackwell, Jamere Foster arrested

Philip Dale Nix was an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, United States and a Greensboro Police Department officer. He served in the force for 23 years.

Nix’s brother Dan Nix is a firefighter. Their father Eddie Nix is a retired police captain and Eddie’s brother Skip Nix is a retired assistant police department chief.

For more than 12 years, Eddie was a team leader for the Greensboro Police Department’s peer support team and a detective in the department’s fraud unit. He also served as the assistant team leader of the department’s honor guard and the supervisor for the department’s family victims unit.

At around 4:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023, Eddie witnessed a crime at the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road in Greensboro. He was off-duty at the time.

Nix approached three suspects namely John Walter Morrison, 28, Z’quriah Le’Pearce Blackwell, 18, and Jamere Justice Foster, 18. Whether or not the three suspect are residents of Greensboro has yet to be confirmed.

Foster allegedly stole 10 cases of beer valued at $232.90 at the store. Blackwell allegedly accompanied him to sell the beer and purchase narcotics.

Morrison, Blackwell and Foster allegedly shot Nix. After the shooting, Blackwell allegedly talked with Foster about disposing of the firearm used in the crime and the registration plate on their Black Chevrolet Equinox.

With the help of the police department of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina, the Greensboro Police Department arrested Morrison, Blackwell and Foster at around 8:00 p.m. They were booked into the Guilford County Jail in Greensboro.

Morrison was charged with larceny, being accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit larceny. Blackwell was charged with being accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and Foster was charged with larceny, first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit larceny.

Bond for Blackwell was set at $500,000 while both Foster and Morrison are being held without bond. On December 2, 2023, they will appear in court.
