Covington, Kentucky’s Timothy Delehanty leaves hospital with IV, confesses to 2006 murder

Timothy Lee Delehanty, 36, of Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, United States was a patient at the St. Elizabeth Hospital campus in Covington. On January 21, 2024, he left the hospital with intravenous injection still in his arm.

After leaving the hospital, Delehanty called police then turned himself in. When he was interviewed by investigators with the police department of Elsmere, Kenton County, he confessed to a crime he committed in 2006.

Paul Clayton was 61 when he was killed sometime between November 30, 2006 and December 2, 2006. When he did not show up for work, his co-workers went to his mobile home in Elsmere and found him covered in blood on the floor.

Elsmere Police Department officers found Clayton’s door unsecured. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his 1996 Ford Thunderbird was missing.

Delehanty stabbed Clayton at least 60 times. A witnesses later saw the stabber driving Clayton’s car, which was later found in Covington.

Prosecutors charged Delehanty with receiving stolen property. However, he was never charged with Clayton’s murder until his recent confession.

After confessing to killing Clayton, Delehanty was arrested and booked into the Kenton County Detention Center in Covington. On January 22, 2024, Delehanty refused to leave and hi cell and show up for court so his bond was not set.

On January 23, 2024, Delehanty was supposed to be arraigned but he refused to appear in court again so the judge ordered him to be held without bond. On January 31, 2024, he is expected to appear in court.
