  1. He was born in Varnville, Hampton County, South Carolina to Josiah Putnam Murdaugh Jr. and Annie Marvin Davis Murdaugh.
  2. He has four siblings namely Hattie Murdaugh Lawton, Herschel Victor Murdaugh, Josiah P. Murdaugh and Motrtimer Murdaugh.
  3. In 1910, he graduated from law school at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. Upon graduation he founded a one-man law firm in Hampton, Hampton County.
  4. On March 24, 1914, he married Etta Causey Harvey Murdaugh.
  5. In 1915, Etta gave birth to their son Randolph “Buster” Murdaugh Jr. in Varnville.
  6. In August 1918, Etta gave birth to their son John Glen “Johnny” Murdaugh in Varnville.
  7. On September 15, 1918, his wife Etta died in Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina at age 29. He later married Estelle Marvin Murdaugh.
  8. In 1920, he became the solicitor for the 14th Judicial Circuit, a division of the South Carolina judicial system. He held the position until 1940 when he was killed in a collision between his car and a train.

  13. On July 19, 1940, he was killed in a collision between his car and a C & W.C. freight train while his car was crossing a railway about four miles east of Varnville. He was 53.
