Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Azunna Anyanwu, 36, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania, United States has tested positive for a prohibited substance. He accepted the standard one-year sanction for his anti-doping policy violation, the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced on March 2, 2018.

Anyanwu tested positive for furosemide following an out-of-competition urine test conducted on October 18, 2017. Furosemide is a specified substance in the class of diuretics and masking agents and prohibited at all times under the UFC’s anti-doping policy, which has adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

Anyanwu’s one-year period of ineligibility began on October 18, 2017, the date his positive sample was collected. Pursuant to the UFC’s anti-doping policy, all UFC athletes serving a period of ineligibility for an anti-doping policy violation are required to continue to make themselves available for testing in order to receive credit for time completed under their sanction.

Before joining the UFC, Anyanwu competed in Matrix Fights, Bellator Fighting Championships and Cage Fury Fighting Championships. The fighter from Bensalem made his professional mixed martial arts debut on October 29, 2010.

On July 11, 2017, Anyanwu knocked out Greg Rebello at “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” Season 1 episode 1. When Anyanwu made his UFC debut on September 16, 2017, he lost to Justin Ledet via split decision.

Currently, Anyanwu holds a professional MMA record of 14 wins and 5 losses. He is 6’1″ tall and he competes in the heavyweight division.
