Refereed by Chris Tognoni, the welterweight bout between Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit, 33, faced Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira, 30, took place at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on April 14, 2018. It was the co-main event of “UFC on Fox 29.”
Tognoni put a stop to the bout at 3:17 of Round 2. Oliveira submitted Condit via guillotine choke.
“UFC on Fox 29” marked Condit’s 15th bout in the UFC cage. Before facing Oliveira, Condit was from a losing streak after failing to defeat Robbie Lawler at “UFC 195,” Demian Maia at “UFC on Fox 21” and Neil Magny at “UFC 219.”
Condit is fighting out of Albuquerque, New Mexico while Oliveira is fighting out of Tres Rios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After losing to Oliveira, Condit now has 30 wins and 12 losses.
When Condit made his UFC debut on April 1, 2009 at “UFC Fight Night 18,” he lost to Martin Kampmann via split decision. They had their rematch on August 28, 2018 at “UFC Fight Night 27” where Condit had his redemptive win by knocking out Kampmann via punches and knees.
On the other hand, Oliveira lost to Gilbert Burns in his UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 62” on March 21, 2015. After the loss, Oliveira returned with three consecutive wins, defeating K.J. Noons, Joe Merritt and Piotr Hallman.
After defeating Condit, Oliveira improved his record to 18 wins and 5 losses. “UFC on Fox 29” marked his 12th bout inside the UFC cage.
In the main event, Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 29, of Coconut Creek, Florida and Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje, 29, of Arvada, Colorado battled it out in the lightweight division. Referee Herb Dean ended the bout at 0:33 of Round 4 when Poirier submitted Gaethje via punches.
