The SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines was filled with fans of combat sports on April 20, 2018. They were witnesses to the historic event of ONE Championship titled “ONE: Heroes of Honor” where its new league called ONE Super Series was released.
In the main event of the MMA card, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of the Philippines battled it out with Andrew Leone of the United States in the bantamweight division. The Filipino fighter knocked out his American opponent at 1:27 of Round 2.
Representing Team Lakay, Belingon is fighting out of Baguio City. After beating Leone, he now holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 18 wins and 5 losses.
Before “ONE: Heroes of Honor,” Belingon enjoyed a four-fight winning streak. He lost to reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil, before defeating Muin Gafurov, Toni Tauru, Reece McLaren and Kevin Chung.
On the other hand, Leone was coming out of his loss to Fernandes prior to “ONE: Heroes of Honor.” The American challenger was submitted by the Brazilian champ on August 5, 2017 at “ONE: Kings and Conquerors.”
Leone is fighting out of Cortland, New York. After losing to Belingon, he now has 8 wins and 4 losses.
Belingon is not fighter from Team Lakay to compete against Leone. When Leone made his ONE Championship debut on May 31, 2013 at “ONE: Rise to Power,” he defeated Team Lakay fighter via unanimous decision.
Eustaquio went on to become the Interim ONE Flyweight World Champion. On the other hand, Leone defeated Shinichi Kojima and Koetsu Okazaki before losing to Fernandes.
Meanwhile, in the main event of the ONE Super Series card, Giorgio Petrosyan, an Armenian kickboxer based in Italy, competed against Thai Muay Thai star “Smokin” Jo Nattawut of Thailand in a kickboxing bout in the 76 kg division. After three five-minute rounds, the judges declared the Armenian-Italian fighter as the winner via unanimous decision.
