Serbia’s Ognjen Topic beats Greece’s Stergos Mikkios at ‘ONE: Grit and Glory’ in Indonesia

Both Ognjen Topic, 32, of Serbia and Stergos “Greek Dynamite” Mikkios, 28, of Greece made their ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Grit and Glory” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 12, 2018. They were in the ONE Super Series fight card.

With Olivier Coste as the referee, Topic and Mikkios competed in a Muay Thai contest in the bantamweight division. After three three-minute rounds, the fighter from Serbia was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

After defeating Mikkios, Topic now has 31 wins, 20 losses and 2 draws. On the other hand, Mikkios now holds a professional record of 19 wins, 9 losses and 2 draws.

Both Mikkios and Topic are American immigrants. The former grew up in a Greek orphanage before relocating to the United States to live with his grandparents.

Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Topic is of ethnic Serb origin and was nine years old when his family moved to the United States. Having earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from William Paterson University, he is also a professional graphic designer.

The fourth and the last bout in the preliminary card of “ONE: Grit and Glory,” the Muay Thai bout between Topic and Mikkios was the first of the two matches in the ONE Super Series fight card. The second one was a kickboxing bout in the 95 kg division between Sergej Maslobojev of Lithuania and Antonion Plazibat, which also ended via unanimous decision in favor of the Lithuanian fighter.

In the co-main event of the evening, Stefer Rahardian of Indonesia competed against Himanshu Kaushik of India in the strawweight division.

In the main event of the evening, reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Alex Silva of Brazil defended his title from former champion Yoshitaka Naito of Japan in a rematch.
