Danny “The King” Kingad, 22, and Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, are two of the celebrated Filipino mixed martial artists representing Team Lakay of Baguio City, Philippines. Both fighters are competing in the flyweight division of ONE Championship.
Currently, Eustaquio is reigning as the ONE Interim Flyweight World Champion. On June 23, 2018, he will co-headline “ONE: Pinnacle of Power” with reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 29, of Brazil for a title unification bout at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, China.
If Eustaquio becomes the undisputed ONE Flyweight World Champion, it is not unlikely for Kingad to be tapped as his next challenger. But Kingad is not fond of the idea of squaring off with Eustaquio for the flyweight crown, pointing out that he would not trade his treasured friendship with his Team Lakay comrade for a shot at the world title.
“That’s not going to happen,” Kingad stated. “We always go at it in practice anyway. I’m happy that I get to spar with him all the time because he pushes me to the limit. We push each other, and we push each other to the next level.”
“I will support coach Geje all the way,”Kingad added. “For now, I’ll just keep getting better as a competitor. I’ll wait for my time.”
On November 10, 2017, Kingad unsuccessfully challenged Moraes at “ONE: Legends of the World” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was the Team Lakay fighter’s first professional defeat.
On March 9, 2018, Kingad rebounded with an impressive triumph. He defeated a battle-tested veteran in Sotir Kichukov, 28, of Bulgaria at “ONE: Visions of Victory” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Kingad will face “The Southern Eagle” Ma Hao Bin, 24, of China at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power.” It will be the second bout among the 11 matches of the evening.
Meanwhile, here is Moraes talking about Kingad prior to their “ONE: Legends of the World” bout:
