Tatsumitsu Wada vs Reece McLaren at ‘ONE: Battle for the Heavens’ in Guangzhou, China



ONE Championship has announced the complete fight card for “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” which will take place at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China on July 7, 2018. The ninth bout of the evening will be between Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada, 29, of Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan and Reece “Lightnight” McLaren, 26, of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.

Wada and McLaren will compete in the flyweight division. Currently reigning as the ONE Flyweight World Champion is Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, of Baguio City, Philippines.

A veteran fighter from Japan-based mixed martial arts organization Deep, Wada is making his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens.” He currently holds a professional MMA record of 19 wins and 8 losses.

The last time Wada lost a bout was on August 13, 2014 at “Deep: 68 Impact” where he was submitted by Yuki Motoya via rear-naked choke. After this, Wada consecutively defeated eight opponents namely Kai “Don’t Blink” Kara-France, 25, of New Zealand, Korean fighters Gyu Hwa Kim, 30, Jae Hyun So, 29, and Jae Nam Yoo, 30, and Japanese fighters Ryuichi Miki, 35, Yuya “Monkey” Shibata, Kosuke “Rambo” Suzuki, 33, and Makoto Takahashi, 17.

On the other hand, McLaren has been competing in ONE Championship since 2016. Out of the six bouts he had in the promotion, he won four, which were the ones against Mark “Mugen” Striegl, 30, of the Philippines, Muin “Tajik” Gafurov, 22, of Tajikistan, Anatpong “Mak Mak” Bunrad, 32, of Thailand and Gianni Subba, 25, of Malaysia.

On December 2, 2016, McLaren unsuccessfully challenged reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil, who won via split decision. It was followed by another loss at “ONE: Quest for Greatness” on August 18, 2017 when McLaren was submitted via punches by Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of the Philippines.

“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” will be headlined by Yodcherry Sityodtong, 19, of Thailand and Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang, 23, of Taiwan, who will compete for the inaugural ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Championship. It will be the 10th bout of the evening.
