Team Lakay’s Honorio Banario to face Rahul Raju not Dae Sung Park at ‘ONE: Conquest of Champions’

Representing Team Lakay of Baguio City, Philippines, Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 29, of Mankayan, Benguet, Philippines was at the press conference for “ONE: Conquest of Champions” at the City of Dreams Manila in Parañaque City, Metro Manila Philippines on November 20, 2018. He and “Crazy Dog” Park Dae Sung, 25, of Seoul, South Korea were expected to be among the panelists.

However, neither Park nor Banario joined the panel. When I asked the Team Lakay fighter, he revealed that the South Korean fighter had been pulled out of the “ONE: Conquest of Champions” card due to medical concerns.

Replacing Park as Banario’s opponent at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” is Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 27, who is originally from Kerala, India but is now based in Singapore. Raju took the fight on four days notice.

Both Banario and Raju are coming out of a rear-naked choke submission loss. The Team Lakay fighter lost to Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” at the Baoshan Sport Center in Shanghai, China on September 8, 2018.

Khan submitted Banario via rear-naked choke in the first round at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon.” The Singaporean fighter who is representing Evolve MMA will co-headline “ONE: Conquest of Champions” with Banario’s Team Lakay teammate Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of Baguio City, Philippines for the vacant ONE Lightweight World Championship.

Banario blamed overconfidence on his loss to Khan. The Mankayan native said it taught him how to be confident without underestimating the skills of his opponent.

Raju lost to Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon, 27, of Brunswick, New Jersey, United States at “ONE: Reign of Kings” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on July 27, 2018. The undefeated American fighter submitted the Singapore-based Indian contender via rear-naked choke in the third round.

Currently, Banario holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 13 wins and 7 losses. Raju has 4 wins and 3 losses.

The “ONE: Conquest of Champions” fight night will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on November 23, 2018. Meanwhile, here is my recent interview with Banario:
