Founded by Mark Sangiao, Team Lakay has several athletes currently signed with Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation. One of them is Jeremy “The Juggernaut” Pacatiw, 22.

An MMA veteran himself, Sangiao also serves as the head coach of Team Lakay and his students look up to him not only as a mentor but also as a father. In an exclusive interview at the TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines on February 18, 2018, Pacatiw told me how much of an influence Sangiao is to him as a person and as an MMA fighter.

Siya nga ‘yong parang naging second father ko, ‘yong second father namin sa gym,” (He became my second father, our second father at the gym) Pacatiw said of Sangiao. “Siya ‘yong tatay namin so marami siyang binibigay na (He is our father so he is giving us a lot of) strong encouragement about our career so I’m very much thankful that I met him in my life.”

According to Pacatiw, it is really Sangiao’s desire to see his proteges become successful in their respective careers. To the Team Lakay founder and head coach, Pacatiw said, “Thank you very much for the motivation, for the good words, ‘yong pag-aalaga mo sa amin (for taking care of us).”

On March 15, 2019, Brave CF will hold “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, marking the promotion’s first ever event in the country. In the seventh bout of the evening, Pacatiw will compete against fellow Filipino fighter Mark “The Ruthless” Alcoba, 27, in the bantamweight division.

Including Pacatiw, five Team Lakay athletes are competing at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” The other four are Jomar Pa-ac, 21, Harold “The Artist” Banario, 24, Jon Chris “Happy Feet” Corton, 26, and reigning Brave Combat Federation Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23.

“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” marks Pacatiw’s eighth Brave CF bout. This makes him the fighter with the most bouts in the promotion.

In the main event, Loman will defend his belt against Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France. It will be the defending champion’s fifth Brave CF bout and third title defense.
