Training out of Bali MMA in Bali, Indonesia, John “Trouble” Brewin, 24, of Auckland, New Zealand was one of the winners at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” It was his third victory in Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation.

Featuring nine MMA bouts, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Brewin competed in the lightweight division against Cian “The Warrior” Cowley, 25, who is training out Straight Blast Gym Ireland in Dublin, Ireland.

After three five-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges and in the end, the referee raised the hand of Brewin. The New Zealander was declared the winner via split decision.

Winning at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” improved Brewin’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Cowley now has 2 wins and 2 losses.

Brewin dedicated his win to New Zealand, which is currently mourning the deaths of 49 people in a terror attack at mosques. In his post-fight interview in the cage with Kirik Jenness, the Kiwi fighter said, “I walked down with this flag.”

“I know the strength of the people of New Zealand,” Brewin continued. “This is a dark day in our country and I never imagined the size of the hatred in such a beautiful place. We will pull through this dark time.”

In 2018, Brewin turned professional, made his MMA debut in 2015 and turned professional in 2018. He won two of his three previous Brave CF bouts.

Brewin knocked out Rai at “Brave 12: KHK Legacy” in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 11, 218 and Ahmed Amir at “Brave 17” in Lahore, Pakistan on October 27, 2018. On December 22, 2018, Brewin lost to Anas “The Moroccan Sensation” Siraj Mounir, 32, of Dubai, United Arab Emirates via unanimous decision at “Brave 20” in Hyderabad, India.
