Leon “Rocky” Edwards, 27, of Erdington, West Midlands, England was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 147.” It was his ninth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts bouts, “UFC Fight Night 147” took place at The 02 Arena in London, England on March 16, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Edwards faced Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson, 30, of Reykjavik, Iceland in the welterweight division.
Kevin Sataki served as the referee of the welterweight bout between Edwards and Nelson. After three five-minute rounds, the contest was left in the hands of the judges.
In the end, Sataki raised the hand of Edwards, who was declared the winner via split decision. The first judged scored the bout 29-27 and the second judge scored it 29-28 both in favor of Edwards while the third judge scored in 28-29 in favor of Nelson.
Competing professionally since 2011, Edwards made his debut in the UFC in 2015. “UFC Fight Night 147” marked Edwards’ 11th outing in the UFC. He is now riding a seven-bout winning streak.
The main event of “UFC Fight Night 147” was a welterweight bout between Darren “The Gorilla” Till, 26, of Liverpool, Merseyside, England and Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, 34, of Miami, Florida, United States. The American fighter, who is of Cuban and Peruvian descent, knocked out his English opponent in the second round.
Including England, the U.S. and Iceland, a total of 11 countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 147.” Edwards was one of the 11 fighters who represented England while Nelson was the sole representative of Iceland.
