The fastest knockout in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship happened at “UFC 239.” Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, 34, of Miami, Florida, United States only needed 5 seconds to knock out Ben “Funky” Askren, 34, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 239” took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, USA on July 6, 2019. In the 10th bout of the evening, Masvidal fight Askren in the welterweight division with Jason Herzog as the referee.
Herzog put a stop to the welterweight bout after 5 seconds in the first round when Masvidal knocked out Askren via flying knee. This broke the undefeated professional MMA record of Askren.
“’Cause he’s a bum,” Masvidal said of Askren in the post-fight octagon interview with commentator Joe Rogan. “That dude was talking wild. I had to show him that there’s consequences sometimes.”
“There’s some bad motherf****ers out there and you don’t want to wake them up,” Masvidal continued. “You should have kept your mouth shut. I probably would have beat you up in the second round. You, guys, are welcome for ending that dude.”
Winning at “UFC 239” improved the professional MMA record of Masvidal to 34 wins and 13 losses. On the other hand, Askren now has 19 wins and 1 loss.
This masked Masvidal’s 11th victory in the UFC. The opponents he defeated in the promotion prior to Askren were Tim Means, Michael Chiesa, Pat Healy, Daron Cruickshank, James Krause, Cezar Ferreira, Ross Pearson, Jake Ellenberger, Donald Cerrone and Darren Till.
Now, Masvidal is interested in challenging reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman, 32, of Dallas, Texas, USA. The former said, “I’m coming for that belt.”
“I don’t know who’s fighting next for it and what not but you, guys, know who deserves that belt,” Masvidal continued. “That’s 16 years of hard work. You, guys, know who deserves that belt.”
