Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood earns 5th UFC win, decisions Andrea Lee at ‘UFC 242’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Joanne “JoJo” Calderwood, 33, of Glasgow, Scotland was one of the winners at “UFC 242.” It was her fifth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

On September 7, 2019, the UFC was at The Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for “UFC 242,” which featured 13 mixed martial arts matches. In the eighth bout of the evening, Calderwood fought Andrea “KGB” Lee, 30, of Shreveport, Louisiana, United States in the women’s flyweight division.

Viacheslav Kiselev served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight contest was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, Kiselev raised the hand of Calderwood, who was declared the winner via split decision.

“I knew as soon as we got matched up with Andrea it was going to be a hard fight but these are the fights I want,” Moras said in her post-fighter interview. “This is going to be a pretty awesome memory for me and we’ll get back to work. I’m here to bang it out with anyone in the division.”

Winning at “UFC 242” improved the professional MMA record of Calderwood to 14 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Lee now has 11 wins and 3 losses.

Including Scotland and the U.S., 13 countries were represented at “UFC 242.” The others were Brazil, Canada, England, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Japan, Morocco, Russia and South Africa.

Calderwood solely represented Scotland while Lee was one of the seven representatives of the U.S. Before facing Lee at “UFC 242,” Calderwood defeated four opponents in the UFC namely Cortney “Cast Iron” Casey, 32, of Arizona, USA; Valerie “Trouble” Letourneau, 36, of Quebec, Canada; Kalindra Faria, 33, of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Ariane “Violence Queen” Lipski, 25, of Parana, Brazil.

In the main event of “UFC 242,” reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 30, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia successfully defended his belt from then reigning interim UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 30, of Coconut Creek, Florida, USA. The Dagestani champion submitted his American challenger via rear-naked choke in the third round.
