Neither Zubaira “Warrior” Tukhugov, 28, nor Lerone “The Miracle” Murphy, 28, won at “UFC 242.” They are fighting out of Moscow, Russia and Stockport, England, respectively.
On September 7, 2019, the Ultimate Fighting Championship was at The Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for “UFC 242,” which featured 13 mixed martial arts matches. In the seventh bout of the evening, Tukhugov and Murphy competed in the featherweight division.
Herb Dean served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the featherweight contest was declared a split draw.
“I’ll be much better in my second fight,” Murphy said after his bout against Tukhugov. “I thought it was going to be harder than it was. I’ll learn from today.”
“I will be better next time,” the English MMA fighter continued. “I want another fight early next year. I need to raise my game and work on my wrestling.”
After “UFC 242,” Tukhugov now holds a professional MMA record of 18 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw. On the other hand, Murphy now has 8 wins, 0 loss and 1 draw.
Including England and Russia, 13 countries were represented at “UFC 242.” The others were Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Japan, Morocco, Scotland, South Africa and the United States.
Murphy solely represented England. Tukhugov was one of the seven representatives of Russia.
Born in Grozny, Chechnya, Russia on January 15, 1991, Tuhugov has been competing professionally since 2010. He joined the UFC in 2014.
“UFC 242” marked Murphy’s UFC debut. He previously competed in Full Contact Contender, Tanko Fighting Championships, FightStar Championship, Evolution of Combat and Celtic Gladiator.
In the main event of “UFC 242,” reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 30, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia successfully defended his belt from then reigning interim UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 30, of Coconut Creek, Florida, USA. The Dagestani champion submitted his American challenger via rear-naked choke in the third round.
