Sarah “Cheesecake” Moras, 31, of Kelowna, British Columbia, United States was one of the winners at “UFC 242.” It was her second victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 13 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 242” took place at The Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on September 7, 2019. In the sixth bout of the evening, Moras faced Liana “She Wolf” Jojua, 24, of Tibilisi, Georgia in the women’s bantamweight division.
Marc Goddard served as the referee. He put a stop to the bantamweight contest after 2 minutes and 26 seconds in the third round when Moras knocked out Jojua via punches.
“It feels so good to be the first female to win a UFC fight in Abu Dhabi,” Moras said in her post-fight interview. “It’s amazing. It means the world to me and I hope it means the world to the people here. I hope more people can get into the sport and it opens their eyes.”
Winning at “UFC 242” improved the professional MMA record of Moras to 6 wins and 5 losses. On the other hand, Jojua now has 7 wins and 3 losses.
Including Georgia and the U.S., 13 countries were represented at “UFC 242.” The others were Brazil, Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Morocco, Russia, Scotland and South Africa.
Jojua solely represented Georgia while Moras was one of the seven representatives of the U.S. Before facing Jojua at “UFC 242,” Moras defeated Ashlee “Rebel Girl” Evans-Smith, 32, of California, USA at “UFC 215” on September 9, 2017 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In the main event of “UFC 242,” reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 30, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia successfully defended his belt from then reigning interim UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 30, of Coconut Creek, Florida, USA. The Dagestani champion submitted his American challenger via rear-naked choke in the third round.
