Japan is one of the host countries of the first events of ONE Esports, the global esports championship series launched by ONE Championship. The upcoming events of the series include the ONE TEKKEN Tokyo Invitational and the ONE Street Fighter Tokyo Challenge.
“ONE Esports is here to take global leadership in the industry,” ONE Esports CEO Carlos Alimurung stated. “Japan is a country with so many amazing stories.”
In addition, Japan will play host to the combat sports event “ONE: Century 世紀” on October 13, 2019. It is the second ONE Championship event to take place in the country.
On September 17, 2019, ONE Championship held the official “ONE: Century 世紀” media day at the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Alimurung attended the event along with ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong, ONE Championship Japan president Andy Hata, Pancrase CEO Masakazu Sakai and Shooto CEO Kazuhiro Sakamoto.
“ONE Championship is exactly what the esports industry needs,” Alimurung declared. “It needs a vehicle to tell the amazing stories of esports athletes. I feel that we have the opportunity and the responsibility to share these stories with the world.”
“My message to young Japanese boys and girls who want to become esports athletes is that it’s a lot of hard work,” Alimurung continued. “It takes a lot of discipline and diligence. You have to be a student of the game so whether you want to be an incredible basketball player, or tennis player, or esports athlete, you have to put the work in. That’s what it’s going to take to get to the top.”
Taking place at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, “ONE: Century 世紀” is the single biggest world championship martial arts event in history with 28 World Champions featured across various martial arts. The entire day of martial arts action is divided into two full-scale world championship events, a feat no other organization in history has ever attempted or accomplished. It is the single greatest martial arts event in the last 100 years.
The first part of “ONE: Century 世紀” will be broadcast live from 9:00 a.m. JST in the United States on TNT. The second part will be broadcast live from 5:00 p.m. JST across more than 140 countries worldwide and streamed to 2.6 billion potential viewers through the world’s largest television networks.
Featured on the “ONE: Century 世紀” card are world championship title bouts, world grand prix championships and world champion versus world champion match-ups. Meanwhile, here are more updates from ONE Championship:
