Jose “Shorty” Torres, 26, of Chicago, Illinois, United States is one step closer to a Brave Combat Federation belt. He will compete for the inaugural Brave CF Flyweight World Championship title at “Brave 29” against Marcel Adur, 27, of Balneario Camboriu, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
While en route to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to serve as a commentator at “Brave 27,” Torres found out his father had a heart attack. The Brave CF event took place at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi on October 4, 2019.
When Torres returned to the U.S., he had to say goodbye to his father, the man who inspired him to pursue martial arts as a profession. With a signed bout agreement to face Adur for a Brave CF title, Torres decided to fight on.
Torres wants to honor his late father. He said it was his father’s dream to see him become the first-ever Brave CF Flyweight World Champion.
“I fight for my father,” Torres shared. “This is his lifelong dream and I know he’s very proud. I wish he was here to see this fight and to see me win a world championship.”
As Torres prepares for the biggest bout of his professional career, he comes in with a deep curriculum, which includes double gold at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Championship and two titles in two different weight classes for Titan Fighting Championship.
What Torres hopes is to put his experience to use against Adur. The former is aiming for a finish to show Brave CF fans how strong he really is.
“It’s been a crazy past two weeks and this camp has been hectic with a bunch of emotions but this is the life my family wanted and it’s the job I signed up for,” Torres said. “I need to be mentally ready to show up 100 percent and my plan is to finish this fight like no other to prove how strong I really am.”
“Brave 29” will take place at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, Bahrain on November 15, 2019. The main event is the inaugural title bout between Torres and Adur is the main event.
