John “Hands of Stone” Lineker, 29, of Brazil has earned his first victory in ONE Championship. He was one of the winners at “ONE: Dawn of Valor,” which took place at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 25, 2019.
Lineker made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Dawn of Valor,” which featured 13 mixed martial arts bouts and three ONE Super Series contests, namely two kickboxing contests and one Muay Thai fight. In the 10th bout of the evening, Lineker competed in an MMA bout in the bantamweight division against Muin “Tajik” Gafurov, 24, of Tajikistan.
Oliver Coste served as the referee. Lineker stayed true to form and was dangerous early with his lightning quick and powerful punches.
Gafurov would try his best to defend and showed incredible heart and chin in doing so. He also scored on a handful of takedowns to his credit.
But Lineker’s power was too much as he proved to be the stronger of the two athletes. After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest was left in the hands of the judges.
In the end, Coste raised the hand of Lineker. The Brazilian contender was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Valor” improved the professional MMA record of Lineker to 32 wins and 9 losses. On the other hand, Gafurov now has 16 wins and 3 losses.
Including Brazil and Tajikistan, 15 countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Valor.” The others were Argentina, Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Sweden, Timor Leste and the United States.
Representing American Top Team, Lineker solely represented Brazil while Gafurov, who is training out of Taj-Fighter, was the only fighter who represented Tajikistan. Here is a recap of “ONE: Dawn of Valor” from Michael Schiavello and Mitch “The Dragon” Chilson:
