Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, Troy “Pretty Boy” Worthen, 26, of the United States was one of the winners at “ONE: King of the Jungle.” It was the undefeated mixed martial artist’s third victory in ONE Championship.
Featuring one Muay Thai title bout, one kickboxing title bout and nine MMA matches, “ONE: King of the Jungle” was a closed-door event held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. In the fifth bout of the evening, Worthen competed in an MMA match in the bantamweight division against ONE Warrior Series alum Mark “Tyson” Fairtex Abelardo, 28, of New Zealand and the Philippines.
Olivier Coste served as the referee. Worthen negated Abelardo’s early onslaught with good footwork and savvy defense.
Worthen then tagged Abelardo with a plethora of high kicks that left the Fairtex Gym representative dazed. With his opponent in disarray, the Evolve MMA representative proceeded to turn to his world-class wrestling, overwhelming his Filipino-Kiwi opponent on the mat.
After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Coste raised the hand of Worthen, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
By winning at “ONE: King of the Jungle,” Worthen was able to maintain his undefeated professional MMA record as he now has 7 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Abelardo downgraded to 19 wins and 7 losses.
Including New Zealand, the Philippines and the United States, 13 countries were represented at “ONE: King of the Jungle.” The others were Australia, Canada, Egypt, India, Japan, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
Training out of Fairtex Gym in Thailand, Abelardo solely represented New Zealand and he was one of the three representatives of the Philippines. “ONE: King of the Jungle” marked his third ONE Championship bout.
Worthen was one of the two representatives of the U.S. “ONE: King of the Jungle” marked his third outing in ONE Championship.
The Evolve MMA representative has been competing professionally since 2017. The first two ONE Championship opponents he defeated were Rui Chen and Chen Lei.
