Not all mixed martial artists and fitness enthusiasts have gym equipment at home to use while in community quarantine during the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But for reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, 42, of the Philippines, there is always an alternative.

“Try everything and make stuff fun,” Vera said. “Don’t have weights? Use household items for weights. Just make sure you’re having fun and try to involve the ones you’re home with.”

An ingenious warrior, Vera is thinking outside of the box when it comes to staying always ready to defend his ONE Championship Heavyweight World Championship belt whenever that time comes. He shared, “I’ve been staying in shape doing basic home bodyweight workouts, roadwork and clearing the jungle, which is probably the hardest one.”

The demands of everyday life in a pre-coronavirus existence scarcely allowed extended moments of respite to take stock and opportunity to re-evaluate what really matters in life. But optimistic people like Vera always see the silver lining and make the most out of it.

Aside from the tips on working out with improvised equipment, Vera also shared what people should take away from the COVID-19 pandemic. Vera advised, “Let this teach us of a more simpler life we all could and should have with our loved ones so when this is all over, let your appreciation shower them every day and always make it count.”

Along with other ONE Championship stars, Vera will take viewers inside their homes for a rare glimpse behind the scenes as well as provide hints and tips for how to stay healthy and active during lockdown. The series runs as part of Global Citizen’s #TogetherAtHome initiative and continues a long-standing relationship between the martial arts organization and the humanitarian organization.

ONE Championship will donate 10 percent of all net proceeds from its new online merchandise store ONE.SHOP to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and other local community organizations. This will support people whose lives and livelihoods have been greatly impacted by the deadly virus.

The culmination of these events will be the “ONE World: Together at Home” global special, which will be streamed live on the ONE Championship Facebook page and ONE Super App on April 19, 2020 starting at 2:00 a.m. SGT.
