Reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 24, of Baguio City, Philippines is one of the mixed martial artists who are also certified dog lovers. While quarantined during the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Team Lakay representative spends more time with his beagle named Toffee.

“Actually, this pandemic taught me more on how to bond with my dog and my dog is getting fat so I need to go run or jog with her,” Pacio shared. While his dog may have put on the pounds, he does not intend to follow suit.

Pacio may move up to flyweight in the future but not to soon. He explained, “When I get older, I think we need to talk about getting up in a higher weight division but for now, I have no intention of going up in weight classes because my teammates are in those weight classes.”

It is understandable that Pacio has reservations about a jump to flyweight. The flyweight division of ONE Championship is currently packed with his Team Lakay teammates Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 31, and Danny “The King” Kingad, 24.

Eustaquio is a former ONE Flyweight World Champion. He held the title from June 23, 2018 to January 25, 2019.

Kingad was a finalist in the inaugural ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix. In the grand finals on October 12, 2019, he lost to former UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, 33, of the United States.

For Pacio, competing at his current weight seems to suit him with his second reign as king of the strawweights producing some impressive results. He first earned the title on September 22, 2018 by dethroning Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 35, of Japan but lost it on January 19, 2019 to Yosuke “The Ninja” Saruta, 32, of Japan.

On April 12, 2019, Pacio reclaimed the belt from Saruta in their rematch. Since then, the Team Lakay representative successfully defended the title from two challengers namely Rene “The Challenger” Catalan, 41, of the Philippines and Alex “Little Rock” Silva, 37, of Brazil.
