Maurice “The Crochet Boss” Greene, 33, of Broadalbin, New York, United States showed his impressive ground game at “UFC on ESPN 12,” also known as “UFC Vegas 4.” The African-American mixed martial artist earned his third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 10 MMA matches, “UFC Vegas 4” took place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on June 27, 2020. In the eighth bout of the evening, Greene fought Gian Villante, 34, of Bellmore, New York, USA in the heavyweight division.
Mark Smith served as the referee. He put a stop to the heavyweight contest after 3 minutes and 44 seconds in the third round when Greene submitted Villante via arm triangle.
Winning at “UFC Vegas 4” improved Greene’s professional MMA record to 9 wins and 4 losses. It was a redemptive win for the Broadalbin native, who was coming out of two consecutive losses.
On the other hand, Villante now has 17 wins and 12 losses. He is now riding a two-bout losing streak.
Five countries were represented at “UFC Vegas 4” namely Brazil, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the U.S. In the co-main event of the evening, Mike “Platinum” Perry, 28, of Orlando, Florida, USA defeated Mickey Gall, 28, of Green Brook, New Jersey, USA via unanimous decision.
Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 31, of Coconut Creek, Florida defeated Dan “The Hangman” Hooker, 30, of Auckland, New Zealand in the main event, which was named the Fight of the Night. The Performances of the Night winners were Kay Hansen, 20, of Fullerton, California, USA and Julian “Juicy J” Erosa, 30, of Yakima, Washington, USA, who submitted Jinh Yu Frey, 35, of Arlington, Texas, USA and Sean “The Sniper” Woodson, 28, of Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, respectively.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, USA on July 5, 1986, Greene made his professional MMA debut in 2012. He joined the UFC in 2019 and defeated his first two opponents in the promotion namely Jeff “Lights Out” Hughes, 32, of Canton, Ohio, USA and Junior “Baby” Albini, 29, of Paranagua, Parana, Brazil.
