ONE Championship athlete Furqan “The Lion” Cheema, 29, is a sport ambassador for the nonprofit organization The Magic Wishing Well. Originally from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, the mixed martial artist is currently based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.

Cheema is spending his quarantine time wisely while the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is still ongoing. While waiting for his next ONE Championship bout, he enjoys fatherhood and keeps himself in shape through continuous training.

As The Magic Wishing Well’s sport ambassador, Cheema partakes in a volunteering role by helping homeless people and those who are in need. On July 5, 2020, he joined the organization’s team in giving out hot food to more than 200 homeless and needy people in West Yorkshire.

“I thoroughly enjoyed joining in with the Magic Wishing Well team today going out and delivering food parcels to the homeless and needy,” Cheema told Conan Daily. “Just the great feeling of helping others is hugely empowering and, in turn, makes you feel happier and more fulfilled. The positive impact you can have in someone’s life is huge and knowing you are part of a team giving the ones in need that hope and trust believing there is light at the end of the tunnel is satisfying.”

The Magic Wishing Well started in 2016 when one of its founders Shakeel Faraz built three bedsits in Heckmondwike, England given out for free to local homeless charities to help get vulnerable homeless people off the streets. It was him who connected Cheema to the organization.

I know Shakeel Faraz personally as a family member as well as through the local boxing circles and have recently been invited by him to become an ambassador for The Magic Wishing Well charity,” Cheema shared. “Shakeel is well respected locally amongst all local charities and charity workers.”

“He has been doing charity work for years all of which is self-funded mainly but some of which is supported by other local charities,” Cheema said of Faraz. “The meals we were delivering yesterday are part of his latest COVID-19 support scheme.”

Cheema is training out of Straight Blast Gym Bradford. He made his ONE Championship debut in 2019.
