Fabiano Hawthorne, 37, of Brazil is interested in joining ONE Championship‘s striking-only league ONE Super Series. He wants to have a rematch with Bangpleenoi Petchyindee Academy, 26, of Thailand.
On July 31, 2020, ONE Championship will resume its flagship event schedule beginning with “ONE: No Surrender” in Bangkok, Thailand. This marks the Singapore-based martial arts promotion’s major return after going on hiatus because of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In 2019, Bangpleenoi won two ONE Super Series fights. In between these two bouts, he successfully defended his channel True4U 154lbs belt from Hawthorne, which was their first encounter.
Hawthorne’s last two fights were a kickboxing contest in Wu Lin Feng in Baise, China on January 18, 2020 and a Muay Thai match in Muay Thai Mayhem in England, United Kingdom on February 29, 2020. Here is a short interview with the Thailand-based Brazilian fighter:
CONAN ALTATIS: Where and how did you spend the quarantine period during the COVID-19 pandemic?
FABIANO HAWTHORNE: I spent my quarantine in Phuket, Thailand very well. Nothing changes here except for the prohibition of fights. We (are) still training, running (and living) normal life but with very little money.
CA: Would you rather compete in ONE Championship’s MMA or Muay Thai or kickboxing under ONE Super Series? Why?
FH: I wanna fight Muay Thai in ONE Super Series because I’ve been living in Thailand and fighting at the biggest shows here against the best fighters so nothing or no one will surprise me in ONE Championship.
CA: Who among the fighters currently signed in ONE Championship would you like to fight first and why?
FH: I wanna fight Bangpleenoi because we already fought for the channel 26 Belt and he won because I hurt my leg but I’m pretty sure that I can win against him easily on these days specially with MMA gloves and he’s already signed with ONE. When we fought, he was (a) ONE Championship fighter already. So yeah, this next event is in Bangkok. We know that nobody can come from overseas so I’m ready.
