Drex “T-Rex” Zamboanga, 27, of the Philippines was one of the winners at “ONE: A New Breed” in Bangkok. The Filipino mixed martial artist earned his first victory in the Singapore-based martial arts promotion ONE Championship.

Featuring three MMA and four Muay Thai fights, “ONE: A New Breed” took place in Bangkok on August 28, 2020. In the third bout of the evening, Zamboanga fought Detchadin “Detchpool” Sorsirisuphathin, 30, of Thailand in an MMA bout in the flyweight division.

“Everything has gone good so far here in Thailand,” Zamboanga said before fight night. “Even if we went on lockdown, we still got some good quality training in. We’re blessed to have the support of the Filipino people and our Thai friends here. I’m glad to be in ONE Championship, making my debut.”

“ONE: A New Breed” marked the first time Zamboanga performed in such a huge event with no audience. He said, “I’m inspired by the thought of my family back home watching me fight.”

“This gives me extra motivation to put together my best performance,” Zamboanga continued. “In fact, millions of fans around the world will be watching so I have to showcase my skills and give it my all. I’m very excited for this Friday night. This is the biggest stage for mixed martial arts in Asia.”

“It’s a completely different level,” Zamboanga added. “The ONE flyweight division is stacked with amazing talent, including my idol Demetrious Johnson so I’m inspired by the possibilities. I welcome whatever challenges may come.”

At the “ONE: A New Breed” fight night, Zamboanga began the bout, inching forward behind complex boxing combinations and fast hands. Detchadin stood right in front of his Filipino opponent and was willing to trade strikes at the center of the ONE Championship ring.

In the second round, Zamboanga continued his striking tirade and mixed in a handful of takedowns for good measure. On the mat, he took his Detchadin’s back and executed a slick rear-naked choke.

This put Detchadin to sleep just before the bell. Here are the details:
