Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, 65, was one of the world leaders who congratulated Democratic Party members Joe Biden, 77, and Kamala Harris, 56. This is according to Bassam Radi, the spokesman of the incumbent and sixth president of Egypt.
“The President stressed the aspiration for cooperation and joint action to strengthen the strategic bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States in the interest of the two friendly countries and peoples,” Rabi said in a statement obtained by Reuters. This made el-Sisi the first Arab president to congratulate Biden and Harris.
On January 20, 2021, Biden and Harris will be inaugurated as the 46th president and 49th vice president of the United States, respectively. In the 2020 U.S. presidential election, they defeated their respective Republican opponents Donald Trump, 74, and Mike Pence, 61, who were seeking reelection.

El-Sisi was born in Cairo, Egypt on November 19, 1954. He served in the Egyptian Army from 1977 to 2014.
From January 3, 2010 to August 12, 2012, el-Sisi was Egypt’s director of military intelligence. He was the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and minister of defence from August 12, 2012 to March 26, 2014, the deputy prime minister from July 16, 2013 to March 26, 2014 and the chairperson of the African Union from February 10, 2019 to February 10, 2020.
On March 26, 2014, el-Sisi retired from his military career and announced that he would run as president in the 2014 Egyptian presidential election. With 96.91 percent of the vote, he won against Hamdeen Sabahi, 66.
