‘Cardigan’ singer Taylor Swift wins in 3 American Music Awards 2020 categories

Taylor Swift, 30, was one of the big winners at the American Music Awards of 2020. The 48th edition of the annual American music awards show took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, United States on November 22, 2020.

Swift won the Artist of the Year award. She defeated Justin Bieber, 26, Austin Richard “Post Malone” Post, 25, Rodrick Wayne “Roddy Ricch” Moore, Jr., 22, and Abel “The Weeknd” Makkonen Tesfaye, 30.

On July 24, 2020, Republic Records released Swift’s most recent and eighth studio album titled “Folklore.” Among the songs in the album are “The 1,” “The Cardigan,” “The Last Great American Dynasty,” “Betty” and “Exile” featuring Bon Iver.

The music video of “Cardigan” won the Favorite Music Video award. The other nominees were the music videos of “Say So” by Amala “Doja Cat” Ratna Zandile Dlamini, 25, “Life is Good” by Nayvadius DeMun “Future” Wilburn, 37, featuring Aubrey Drake Graham, 34, who is mononymously known as Drake, “Rain on Me” by Stefani Joanne Angelina “Lady Gaga” Germanotta, 34, featuring Ariana Grande, 27, and “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd.

Gaga, Swift and Dua Lipa, 25, were nominated as Favorite Female Artist in the pop and rock category. The award was given to Swift.


On October 26, 2020, Lipa and “Good Morning America” announced the nominees of the American Music Awards of 2020. Ricch and The Weeknd received eight nominations each making them the most nominated artists.

Lipa performed “Levitating” during the awards ceremony, which was hosted by Taraji P. Henson, 50. The event was produced by Dick Clark Productions and was aired on ABC.

The Weeknd performed “In Your Eyes” with Kenneth Bruce “Kenny G” Gorelick, 64, and “Save Your Tears,” both of which are from his fourth studio album “After Hours.” Country pop music duo Dan Smyers, 33, and Shay Mooney, 28, who are collectively known as Dan + Shay, sang “I Should Probably Go to Bed,” which is the second single from their upcoming fourth studio album.

Bieber, The Weeknd and Dan + Shay tied with Swift as the artists with most awards. They received three awards each.
