Mexican-American actor Mario Lopez, 47, and Italian-Irish-American beauty queen Olivia Culpo, 28, will host the 69th edition of Miss Universe. The latter won the 61st edition of the international beauty pageant.
The coronation ceremony of Miss Universe 2020 will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, United States. It will air live on FYI on May 16, 2021 and it will stream for free on The Roku Channel on May 17, 2021.
This is not the first time Lopez and Culpo are hosting Miss Universe. On May 28, 2007, he co-hosted the beauty pageant with Miss Teen USA 1998 Vanessa Minnillo Lachey, 40, at the National Auditorium in Mexico City, Mexico.
It was Riyo Mori, 34, of Japan who was crowned Miss Universe 2007. Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012 at PH Live at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on December 19, 2012.
On December 8, 2019, Culpo and Lachey co-hosted the 68th edition of Miss Universe with Steve Harvey, 64. From 2015 to 2019, Harvey hosted the beauty pageant.
Zozibini Tunzi, 27, of South Africa was crowned Miss Universe 2019 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. She was not able to crown her successor in 2020 because of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, making her the longest reigning Miss Universe titleholder.
Angèle Kossinda, 28, makes history as the first ever Miss Universe candidate representing Cameroon. She is one of the oldest contestants along with Vandana Jeetah, 28, of Mauritius and Daniela Nicolas, 28, of Chile.
Rabiya Mateo, 24, of the Philippines is the first candidate to arrive in Florida. Among the early favorites are Nova Stevens, 27, of Canada, Bianca Lorena Tirsin, 22, of Romania, Reth Sarita, 25, of Cambodia, Maria Thattil, 27, of Australia and Miqueal-Symone Williams, 23, of Jamaica.
