Simone Arianne Biles is an African-American artistic gymnast born in Columbus, Ohio, United States to Kelvin Clemons and Shanon L. Biles. Simone has a younger sister named Adria Biles.

Shanon is the daughter of U.S. Air Force veteran Ronald “Ron” Biles. He was a single father when he met Nellie Cayetano Biles of Belize, who became his second wife.

Adria and Simone are the younger sisters of Ashley Biles-Thomas and Tevin Biles-Thomas. The four siblings went in and out of foster care when they were young.

  1. As a child, she was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
  2. In 2000, Ron and Nellie started temporarily caring for her, Adria, Ashley and Tevin in Spring, Texas, USA. In 2003, Ron and Nellie officially adopted her and Adria while Ron’s sister Harriet J. Thomas adopted Ashley and Tevin. She holds Belizean citizenship through Nellie.
  3. In 2011, she won two individual gold medals at the American Classic.
  4. In 2012, she won two individual gold medals at the U.S. Classic and one individual gold medal at the U.S. National Championships.
  5. In 2013, she won three individual gold medals at the City of Jesolo Trophy, three individual gold medals at the Chemnitz Friendly, one individual gold medal at the U.S. National Championships and two individual gold medals at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships (World Championships). In the same year, she had surgery for bone spurs in her right tibia bone.
  6. In 2014, she won four individual gold medals at the U.S. Classic, three individual gold medals at the U.S. National Championships and three individual gold medals at the World Championships. She withdrew from the 2014 American Cup due to a shoulder injury,

In 2015, she won one individual gold medal at the American Cup, four individual gold medals at the City of Jesolo Trophy, four individual gold medals at the U.S. Classic, three individual gold medals at the U.S. National Championships and three individual gold medals at the World Championships.

In 2016, she won one individual gold medal at the Pacific Rim Championships, one individual gold medal at the U.S. Classic, four individual gold medals at the U.S. National Championships and three individual gold medals at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil she and her teammates Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Alexandra Raisman won gold in the women’s artistic team all-around on August 9, 2016. She won gold in all-around on August 11, 2016, in vault on August 14, 2016, in floor on August 16, 2016 and bronze in balance beam on August 15, 2016. Her book “Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance” was published on November 15, 2016.
  9. She competed in “Dancing with the Stars” Season 24, which aired on ABC from March 20, 2017 to May 23, 2017. Paired with professional dancer Sasha Farber, she finished fourth. From 2017 to 2020, she and fellow gymnast Stacey Ervin Jr. dated.
  10. In 2018, she revealed that she was one of the many survivors who were sexually abused by USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar. In the same year, she won three individual gold medals at the U.S. Classic, five individual gold medals at the U.S. National Championships, three individual gold medals at the Worlds Team Selection Camp and three individual gold medals at the World Championships.

At the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, she and her teammates Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee and Grace McCallum won silver in women’s artistic team all-around on July 27, 2021. She was the only athlete to qualify to all individual finals but on July 28, 2021, she withdrew from the finals of the individual all-around competition.
